Ghost Hunter Game

Game for teams:
Get lollipops, ribbon, paper, tissue paper, and select 5-10 Halloween terms. You may want a styrofoam base to stick the ghosts into during the game.

Divide party guest into Ghost Hunting teams of 3-5 kids per team, the number per team may be based the ages of the kids.

Each team is given clues to find ghosts that can be hidden outside or inside.

Note: Don't place all the ghosts together or the kids will grab the first ghost they see rather than find the ghost you want them. Also, tell them not to untie the ghosts until after the game is over. So send them off to different areas. You'll want 1 ghost per guest or a specified number per team, but have extras so each child gets a ghost.

Each ghost is a lollipop covered with tissue paper, tied with ribbon with a letter written on the ghost. Use a marker a add eyes and a mouth to the ghosts.

Send the kids with clues off to find ghosts. If young children have an adult go with them for safety and to assist if they don't understand the clues.

Example Clues: I live near the large tree in the backyard or At night I come out from under Mr. Wilson's favorite chair. Fun, increase difficult with age.

Each team will return with 3-5 ghosts with letters. The corresponding letters will spell or help spell a mystery word that relates to Halloween. See the 2 versions below:

Young kids: Use words where all the letters are given: bat, witch, cat, hat, broom, ghoul etc... One team at a time, take the letters and mix them up. The Ghost Hunting team whose ghosts are being used get the first try to guess the mystery word. If they guess the word correctly they get a point, if they miss the word the other teams have a chance to get a point. Have them raise their hand if they know the answer, 1 guess per team. If no team guesses the word, then a simple clue is given and the process is repeated until the word is guessed. If there is a tie have a tie-breaker mystery word that is a little harder. Offer a small prize for the winners.

A little harder: In this version the letters on the ghosts only give clues to the mystery Halloween word. Word Examples: pumpkin, headless, horseman, haunted, goblins, Sleepy Hollow, etc... Arrange the letters in correct order leaving spaces for missing letters. The Ghost Hunting team whose ghosts are being used get the first try to guess the mystery word. If they guess the word
correctly they get a point, if they miss the word the other teams have a chance to get a point. Have them raise their hand if they know the answer, 1 guess per team.

If no team guesses the word, then a simple clue is given and the process is repeated until the word is guessed. Again have a tie-breaker word just in case and offer a prize for the victors.

Pumpkin Bowling
Wrap 2-liter bottles with large white handkerchiefs or white tissue paper and decorate them to look like spooky ghosts. Fill the bottles with enough water to weigh them down and stand them like bowling pins. Use small pumpkins or an orange ball to roll at the "ghosts" the one who knocks over the most ghosts wins the game.

Musical Tombstones
Place tombstones made from poster board on the floor, one for each child minus one. Play some spooky Halloween music and get the children to walk around the tombstones pretending to be zombies. When the music stops, the children must lay down with his or her head at the top of the tombstone. One will be left out each time, remove a headstone and resume the music and keep playing until only one child is left.

Witch's Wart
You will need a extremely large picture of a Ugly Halloween witch. Hang it on a door or wall. Give each child a piece of stickum that is used to hold up posters and cutouts on the wall. Blindfold them and spin them around and have them stick the piece of stickum on the witch. The one who gets the stickum "wart" closest or on her nose wins.

Boo Bingo (ages3-5)

What you'll need:
* plain paper
*candy corn
*pencil or pen
*bowl

How to Play
Prepare Bingo cards ahead of time. Draw a large grid with nine squares. In each square draw a simple Halloween picture: a cat, a bat, a witch's hat, a ghost, a broom, a jack-o-lantern, a spider, a full moon, and a candy corn. Make a bingo card for each player, but vary the order in which you draw the pictures, so that each card is different. Draw an extra set of pictures and cut them apart. Put them in a bowl.

Give everyone a card and some candy corn for markers. Take turns drawing slips from the bowl and calling out the picture. Cover that picture on your card with a candy corn. The first person to get 3 pictures covered (across, up and down or diagonally) yells "Boo!" and is the winner.

Cool Halloween Games For Kids Of All Ages
by Anne Sinclair

Fall is in the air and Halloween not far behind, now is the time to start thinking about the great Halloween games for the kids who will be knocking on your doors. Of course if you are throwing a Halloween party you will want to find not only great games, but also spooky decorations, and icky treats as well. A good selection of games, crafts, and activities will keep the party running smoothly even after the younger goblins have given up the ghosts.

A little bit of organization will go a long way towards plenty of games to keep the ghouls and zombies at bay long enough to bring out some smiles and avoid any uncomfortably quiet moments as adults scramble to find something else to entertain the kids. If you have a few backups in mind this can go a long way towards the oh so important skill of buying a little more time. Also be sure to provide prizes for your games. Even boring games will keep a child’s attention a little longer if there is the hope of a prize when all is said and done. It is also vitally important that you choose games that are age appropriate for your party guests.

Older children might enjoy games such as ghoul and fright or other scarier Halloween themed games while younger kids might find them too frightening or complicated to consider. Toddlers tend to really love pumpkins so any game with a pumpkin as a theme will generally retain a toddler’s rapt attention. Toddlers also tend to prefer short games with few rules. You can even use the same game with different themes and toddlers will tend to remain well entertained. Marshmallow bobbing, scavenger hunts and the Monster freeze dance are also great fun for your smaller partygoers.

Other great Halloween gaming ideas include games that encourage the use of imagination and creativity. Craft projects are generally a hit, as children love bringing something home with them, especially if it’s something they made with their own hands. Be creative with your crafting projects and offer several to choose from. Some kids may choose to try them all!

Older kids often like the ooey gooey gross-out types of games. Be as creative as you can be with the contents of your pantry. Can you make intestines or cauliflower brains? Be creative and see what great things you can come up with. Also, if you have children of your own, let them help in the planning process, it will make them feel valued and special. You’ll find your children to be a great asset to you since all children have really great imaginations! You might be surprised what their demented little minds can come up with. I know my kids constantly surprise me.

Whatever games you choose for your Halloween fun remember the goal is fun and you really need to be flexible or no one will be having much fun. Halloween only happens once a year so make this party one that will create happy memories for a lifetime!
